JOSE LUIS CORTELL
José Luis holds the position of alternating Principal horn at the Finnish National Opera and Ballet.
He received his first horn lessons at the age of five years at the "Conservatori Professional de Música José Manuel Izquierdo" in Catarroja (Valencia) where he graduated medium degree with Prof. Javier Enguídanos. After that, he continued his studies in "Conservatori Superior de Música Joaquín Rodrigo" from Valencia with Professor Miguel Torres Castellano, where he got his Bachelor's degree in Horn performance. In 2012, he enrolled at the "Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst" in Frankfurt with Prof. Esa Tapani where he got his Master's degree in Horn performance. Moreover, his teacher Javier Raga Piqueras has been a valuable support to Jose Luis throughout his carreer.
During his studies he played in prestigious youth orchestras such as the Orchestra Academy of SHMF (Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival). During his Master studies in Frankfurt he had a position as the Co-Solo horn at the Stadttheater Giessen, Germany (2014-2015).
Professionally, he has played as a guest with the Berliner Symphoniker, Camerata Salzburg, Frankfurter Opera, Helsinki Philarmonik among others. He has also been a member of the West Eastern Divan Orchestra with Daniel Barenboim. He is a regular guest principal with orchestras such as the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra and Konzerthaus Orchestra Berlin.
Jose Luis is a Co-Director of the International Music Festival of Valencia, where he has the opportunity to work with well known international musicians.
